The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. This summer, USDA plans to serve more than 200 million free meals to children 18 years and under at approved SFSP sites.
Here are some ways that providers serving families can help:

The Backpack Challenge is the county’s award winning school
supplies drive. Our community partners and staff have donated more
than 100,000 backpacks to students in need since the program was launched.
School-age children who have a Hennepin County case manager are eligible.
The Backpack Challenge runs from July 10th to
August 10th. Fill a backpack
this summer and help a student start the year strong! Last year, donations and
supplies valued at nearly $70,000 were collected to fill and distribute 1,435
backpacks to Hennepin County children.
Donations can be dropped off by appointment or arrangements
can be made for a donation pick-up by county staff. Financial contributions
will be used to purchase supplies. For more information about how to donate,
contact Kim La Rosa, Volunteer Coordinator at 612-596-8702 or by email at kimberly.larosa@hennepin.us.

Providers are invited to attend a community training session that
promotes choice, independence, and helps seniors and persons with disabilities live in their communities as independently as possible. The training focuses on accessing home- and community-based services and potential
funding to remain at home longer. Sessions are intended for parents, providers,
legal representatives and persons with disabilities. View session schedule (PDF).
The Minnesota Department of Human Services has issued a new Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP)
Eligibility Policy Manual (EPM). The manual replaces the Health Care Program
Manual (HCPM) and the Insurance Affordability Programs Manual (IAPM) as of June
1, 2016.
The EPM is used
by county, tribal, and state agency staff who assist with eligibility
determinations and by service providers, and the general public as a policy
guide. The EPM incorporates policies concerning Medical Assistance (MA),
MinnesotaCare, the Minnesota Family Planning Program (MFPP), and the Medicare
Savings Program (MSP).

about how the Eligibility Policy Manual is formatted and organized in the manual letter issued
June 1.
