Step To It participants exceed 1 billion steps; Brooklyn Park keeps the laurels

In 2016, Step To It participants took steps toward a healthier life -- make that 1,010,151,671 steps. The annual four-week physical activity competition, which ended May 28, attracted thousands of participants from across the metro area. Steppers, who live or work in 24 participating communities achieved significantly more steps than in 2015.

Once again, Brooklyn Park finished on top 128,834,094 steps—to continue their winning streak. Other top finishers:

  • Shorewood claimed the Most Active Resident award victory for the highest average number of steps per participant.
  • The Most Engaged Community award goes to Minnetonka Beach who had the highest percent of their residents who participated in the challenge.

Many returning cities also saw major year-to-year increases in the number of steps. Awards will also go to the stepper in each participating community who chalked up the most steps in the competition. For individual winners, visit the Step To It Challenge website.
