National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

    pills

It’s time to clean out your medicine cabinet.  Bring your unwanted or expired medicine to our disposal locations on Saturday, April 30 during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

For added convenience, through a partnership with the DEA, we are operating a “drive-through” drop off location in downtown Minneapolis, near the Hennepin County Government Center from 10am-2pm. Vehicles may drive to 4th Avenue and 6th Street and they will be directed to stop and hand off their medicines for proper disposal.

There are also several permanent medicine drop off locations throughout Hennepin County at Sheriff’s Office facilities.  For locations, visit ww.hennepin.us/medicine or call 612-348-3777.

Drug prevention meeting for parents and teens

Thank you to all the parents, teens, and community members who joined us for our Drug Prevention Town Hall in Hopkins on April 25th. The Sheriff’s Office, Hopkins Public Schools, Hopkins Police Department and Minnetonka Police Department – held the event to raise awareness about substance abuse prevention. If you missed the meeting, we urge you to take a few moments to watch this video and understand how medication abuse is a danger to youth.

    Sheriff leads international counter-terrorism group

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek provided closing remarks at the Leaders in Counter-Terrorism Alumni Association’s 2016 Annual Conference. Currently, Sheriff serves at the president of the organization.

Conference attendees had the opportunity to learn from many of the world’s subject matter experts on counter-terrorism.

During opening remarks, Sheriff Stanek said, “This week’s conference could not be more important or timely, following in the wake of horrendous terror attacks in Brussels and Lahore. In the past two years, since the Islamic State declared its caliphate, there have been more than 75 Islamic State-inspired terror attacks around the world.”

The Leaders in Counter-Terrorism is a joint leadership project between the FBI, Scottish Police College, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Harvard University and St. Andrews University.
