Food Digest is a quarterly newsletter written by inspectors from your local health department to support and educate Hennepin County food facility owners and managers about food safety as recommended by Minnesota Food Code 4626.


Upcoming Basics of Foodborne Prevention class March 8, 2016

The next basic food safety class will be held on Tuesday March 8, 2016 from 9am-12:30pm. It will be held at our Hopkins office located at 1011 1st St. S. Hopkins, MN 55343 in meeting room 233 on the second floor.

New Environmental Health Specialist!

Hennepin County Public Health Protection is thrilled to welcome Julie Degn!

Before joining Hennepin County Public Health Department in April 2015, Julie worked in institutional food service management and volunteered with programs aiding nutrition education and food security. Julie’s primary duties in Hennepin County include food, lodging, and pool inspections.

Julie holds a bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition from St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota and studied Environmental Public Health at Rutgers, the state university of New Jersey. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, reading and running.

Ordinance reminder

Posting a valid food license

As stated in Section 4 from Hennepin County Ordinance 3, a valid food license must be located onsite and posted so that the public can easily see it. If you have an expired license or have any questions about licensing, please call our main office at 612-543-5200.

Section 4: ADMINISTRATION.

4.5 Transfer and Display of License. Only a person who complies with the requirements of this Ordinance shall be entitled to hold a license. A license shall not be transferable as to person or place. A valid license shall be located onsite and posted so that it is clearly visible to the public.
