Lt. Gov Tina Smith pushed the Dayton administration's transportation plan Tuesday with a news conference at one of the nation's most difficult interchanges.

Smith and Transportation Commissioner Charlie Zelle were at the Interstate Highway 35 and Interstate Highway 494 interchange Tuesday morning saying that area could be improved if the governor's transportation plan is approved in the Legislature. [Read more]

Minnesota's new Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith toured Ikonics Corporation in Duluth Tuesday hoping to better understand how to address work force training issues throughout the state.

"I look today at the work that they're doing in the aerospace industry and amazing technology that is supplying jet engines all over the world, and using a technology that they invented here is a pretty great example of Minnesota inventiveness," Smith said. [Read more]

In February, Lt. Governor Tina Smith visited the Boise Paper Mill in International Falls, where she took a tour of the plant and met with employees.


Half-million dollar grant will boost ‘Net service in Todd County

The grants will provide up to 50 percent of the cost of developing broadband for improved high-speed Internet in communities across the state.

Smith is settling in to a job she never sought and considers herself an “accidental” politician.

As the chief of staff for Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and former Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak, she made a name for herself behind the scenes and never expected to serve in public office.
