August Reflections and Transitioning to Fall
August marked a meaningful shift—from convening to cultivating. As we wrapped up summer engagements with the final Clinic at the Capitol, we simultaneously began preparing for the 40th anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. My focus over the fall months will calibrate towards legacy, logistics, and the kind of storytelling that moves hearts and systems.
We uplifted community-centered planning, celebrated the artistry of inclusive design, and continued to build bridges between agencies, advocates, and everyday Minnesotans. Our weekly rhythm this month reflected a steady heartbeat: one of care, clarity, and commitment to systems change. Whether we were finalizing event logistics, co-creating accessible materials, or celebrating the voices marginalized communities, we stayed rooted in our values—and in each other.
As we move into September, let’s carry forward the spirit of August: listening deeply, planning boldly, and remembering that every touchpoint is a chance to build trust. The work ahead is rich with possibility, and I’m grateful to be in it with all of you.

MCLA Community Needs Assessment Survey
The Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs (MCLA) is partnering with Management Analysis and Development (MAD), a separate state government division, to survey and hear from our communities. The goal is to understand the most important issues currently affecting our communities, to have a better sense of how existing state programs benefit Latinos/es, and to learn what more the state should be doing to ensure Latino/e prosperity and wellbeing.
Fill out the survey, available in English and Spanish—it takes less than 15 minutes! Your response to this survey is completely confidential and anonymous, but your voice will help MCLA more authentically educate and advise legislators on the aspirations of our communities. For questions, please contact: Aaron Sepulveda, Legislative and Policy Director in Education: aaron.sepulveda@state.mn.us.

Celebrating Minnesota's National Braille Champions!
National Braille Champions Celebration hosted by the incredible team at Minnesota State Services for the Blind (SSB).
Four brilliant students qualified for the National Championships, and all came home with hardware! The highlight was going on a tour, learning more about SSB’s incredible work, and watching SSB's very talented team connect directly with the kids who learn using the books and resources they create each day.

Rooted in Resiliency Panel for DHS Employee Engagement Month
Ashley moderated the “Rooted in Resiliency” panel, a part of the month-long Employee Engagement Month series hosted by DHS. The vibrant panel of highly skilled and qualified individuals shared about their cultures and identities, and was a journey between differences and similarities of lived experiences. The session uplifted how being from community brings a different vantage point and approach to serving the State of Minnesota.

Clinics at the Capitol | Building Bridges with Grantees
What a treat to host the 3rd and final Clinic at the Capitol convening, focused on Grantmaking!
This mutual learning series drew nearly 600 registrants, dozens of statewide partnerships, and most importantly created a platform to prove to state agencies, employees, and participants that the State of Minnesota is ready to face challenges and find solutions alongside community.
Now comes the exciting work of synthesizing the data for continuous improvement recommendations and next steps!
