Governor Dayton Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of the Victims of the Attack in Annapolis, Maryland
ST. PAUL, MN – In accordance with a proclamation issued this morning by President Donald
Trump, Governor
Mark Dayton has directed all United States flags
and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal
buildings in the State of Minnesota. As directed by the President’s
proclamation, flags will be flown at half-staff beginning immediately, until
sunset on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, as a mark of respect for the victims of
the terrible act of violence in Annapolis, Maryland.
On Thursday, June 28, 2018, a reprehensible act of violence
was committed against innocent journalists and a staff member at Capital
Gazette Communications in Annapolis, Maryland, and the victims and
their families deserve our honor, respect, and remembrance.
In keeping with appropriate flag etiquette and U.S. Code, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton may order the state flag to be flown at half-staff under very limited circumstances. He may also order the national flag to be flown at half-staff on state property only. A state flag on state property is required by law to be flown at half-staff if the national flag is flown at half-staff.
