FALL COLOR FINDER

Fall color in northeast Minnesota has accelerated due to recent frosts, but peak color still lingers in the region's ash, aspen, birch and maple trees. Autumn shades of orange, yellow and gold cast a golden glow throughout northwest Minnesota's forests, while forests in central Minnesota are rapidly turning orange, yellow and red. Fall color is also progressing rapidly in southern Minnesota and the metro area. Plan this week's adventure to view the glorious fall splendor before it's too late. |

Peak fall color is lingering in many areas of northeast Minnesota. Bright yellow, peachy orange and crimson-red maple leaves can still be seen. The ash and aspen trees are bright yellow and rich golden-orange, brightening the landscape and creating a feeling of warmth. Along the north shore of Lake Superior, the birch and aspen are turning various shades of yellow.

Last weekend’s frost kick-started the fall color change. There are still a lot of green trees, but autumn shades of orange, yellow and gold are quickly taking over the forests. The understory maples are at their peak, and the birch, aspen and tamarack fill the parks with a golden-yellow glow.

The maple trees are quickly turning beautiful shades of orange, yellow and red due to recent frosts. The ash trees are a stunning yellow, and the oaks are taking on rust and burgundy tones. Overall, fall color is progressing quickly, with excellent views throughout central Minnesota parks.

Parks throughout the metro area are a patchwork of color. The ash trees are golden but some are shedding their leaves. The cottonwood, birch and hackberry trees are lightening and displaying lime-green and yellow leaves. Some maples are displaying vibrant red, orange and yellow leaves. Scarlet red leaves fill the sumac, gray dogwood and Virginia creeper vines.

Yellow leaves are spreading through the ash, cottonwood and basswood trees. Brilliant crimson leaves highlight the sumac stands, and the vibrant red Virginia creeper vines climb up into the canopies of the trees. The native grasses remain various shades of red, purple and gold.
