News From Kathy Kaiser

happy holidays

Dear Families,

Wise organizations track their progress.  At Centennial Elementary we work together regularly to set specific goals and track improvement.   All of our teachers work in teams to review student data and craft challenging goals (called S.M.A.R.T. goals) for student growth.  Throughout the school year students will take important assessments.  Since education is differentiated for each student’s needs, their assessment results are used to either continue the planned education strategies within the goal at their grade level or adapt the plan and utilize new strategies or materials as needed.  Each spring our faculty compiles data to determine whether or not their goal was met and how to improve in the upcoming year.

The term S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for goals which are:

Specific

The goals are spelled out clearly and deal with one area at a time.

Measurable

The success at reaching these goals can be measured.

Attainable

They are goals which CAN be achieved within that period of time.

Relevant

They are goals which are relevant to learning.

Timely

They are goals which speak to the needs the school or individual teacher or child has now.

2020-21 Centennial Preschool Registration Coming Soon!

***Formerly KC Preschool and School Readiness Preschool

Centennial Preschool provides full- and part-day experiences designed to help children prepare to enter kindergarten with the skills and behaviors necessary to be successful. Preschoolers work on listening, personal and social development, language and literacy, thinking and math skills through guided play, group time, and social interaction. Centennial Preschool utilizes Creative Curriculum for Preschool, is taught by licensed teachers, and is 4-Star Parent Aware rated.

Preschool registration for the 20-21 school year is by lottery. Registration opens on January 15, and registrations submitted by 8am on January 31 will be included in the lottery.  Centennial Preschool classrooms are located at Blue Heron, Centerville, Centennial, Golden Lake, Rice Lake Elementary and the Early Childhood Center.

Completing a registration does not guarantee placement in a class, and registering earlier does not increase your chance of receiving a placement. Registrations received after 8am on January 31 will be reviewed in the order received after all lottery registrations are processed. A $40 registration fee is charged if and when your child’s contract is approved.

For more information please contact the Early Childhood office at EarlyChildhood@isd12.org  or 763-792-6120.
