Message from the Principal....

Education

Dear Centerville Parents,

Last week administrators and community leaders had coffee with legislators.  The topics were: increasing the funding formula to meet cost of living increases, equalizing the levy dollars and legislation on controlling costs of special education services.  The good news is that Roger Chamberlain is authoring a bill to equalize school funding.  We love this idea!  The fact that this bill is being put forth makes us feel like our concerns are being heard.  We believe schools and communities should not receive less state funding because you don’t have a large business base in your community.  We appreciate our community passing our levy and want to continue to work so every school receives equal state funding.

**Online parent teacher conference sign-up link will be emailed to you on February 12th at 6:00 pm.

Stay warm and drive safe.

Art Adventures

 nbnbvmnb

Did you know your child has been learning all about Egypt??  Throughout the month of January, students learned about Egypt’s Sunken Cities. Once a week trained parent volunteers visited your child’s classroom to talk about Egyptian art, some of which has been underwater for over a thousand years!

Please take a minute and ask your child to tell you about Art Adventure, there were so many amazing conversations and questions sparked by this program.  You can ask them about Isis and Osiris, Horus, or the Apis Bull.  They can tell you about the Sphinx’s that greeted ancient Egyptians outside of the Temple, or even about the sun’s voyage across the ocean.  We had conversations about different cultures and beliefs, sibling rivalry, and animal protectors.  We learned that there are whole cities under the ocean and what it took to bring their secrets to the surface, and all the way to Minnesota.  Egypt’s Sunken Cities is still at the Minneapolis Institute of Art if you are interested in seeing the exhibit, you do need to buy tickets in advance as it is nearing the end of it’s run, it is worth the trip if you can do it (and your kids would love to show you some of the pieces they learned about.)

Thank you so much for your support and donations to the PTA fundraisers, Art Adventure is one of the programs you funded.  A huge thank you to the following volunteers who took time to learn the material and bring it to the classrooms every week:  April Loula, Katie Hogan, Jenny Farrell, Allison Stegeman, Jenny O’Connell, Peggy Anderson, Karli Knox, Danielle Twohy, Nicki Ahles-Moses, and Heidi Wiste.
