Message from the Principal....

Centerville Parents,

This year we have adopted a new literacy series called Benchmark Advance.  We believe the students are learning many new skills including main idea, finding key details and annotating a text.  However, a challenge area for us is that the benchmark assessments are based on the end of year standards.  The good news is that these assessments won’t get any harder, but on the flip side students are struggling more with theses assessments at the beginning of the year.  Please understand that if your child is telling you these reading test are difficult they are correct.  It’s a great time to encourage them to just keep working at it.  They don’t know this information that well, YET!  The “YET” is part of our growth mindset.  We really do believe the skills they are learning will be invaluable to them as they continue their education.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or myself.

Centerville Elementary continues to find creative ways for our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) program to be successful.  Students are acknowledged at our schoolwide assembly for showing respect, responsibility, right choices and readiness.  We are in our 6th year and have been recognized as an exemplar PBIS school by the Minnesota Department of Education.  Centerville’s PBIS committee meets every other week to look at data in order to find ways we can continue to improve.  Students love our celebrations!

Don’t forget bingo tonight – hope to see you here!
