Message from the Principal....

Education

Dear Centerville Parents,

Thanks to all the parents who came out to support our book character parade.  The students had a great time and we are always glad when the weather cooperates so we can utilize the outside route and everyone can get a great view.

The two-hour late start included training for teachers on the new language arts curriculum, focusing on small group instruction.  The trainer stayed in the building all day and was available for teachers to meet with individually.  Paraprofessionals attended a training on equity and access at the district office.

Please make sure to put your child’s name on their winter gear.  Anything we find a name on is returned.  With cooler temperatures in the morning and above 50 at recess our lost and found is growing at a concerning rate.

Good luck this weekend to those of you who are hunters!

Looking for Volunteers

Do you have some spare time?  The Centerville Parent Association is looking for volunteers.  The two events coming up are the Fall Book Fair and Family Bingo Night.  Unfortunately, events couldn't happen without wonderful volunteers like Centerville has.  Below are the links to both of the events:

Art Adventure Volunteers Needed

The Art Adventure program at Centerville Elementary is currently seeking volunteers.  We need “Picture People” to help present works of art to CVE students. You DON’T have to be an artist or an art history major, we will train you!  During the month of January 2018, parents will present art to CVE students in their classrooms.   We will work around your schedule the best we can, and try to pair parents with their own kids’ classrooms – in most cases this means 1 to 1.5 hours, once a week for the month of January.

This valuable program—now in it’s 22nd year here at CVE—needs parent volunteers for another successful year.  This year’s theme is Egypt’s Sunken Cities and is a special travelling exhibit.  This set is SO much fun, the kids will learn about excavating treasure, Egyptian pharaohs and harrowing tales of bravery and family.  This set will certainly spark lots of insights and discussion from the children.  The kids LOVE this program, they look forward to it every year and there is no sweeter sound than the “oohs” and “aaaahs” when we show them the art we brought in that day.  If you want to see Art Adventure in Action please check out this website:  https://vimeo.com/175854169

Please consider being a part of the Art Adventure program here at CVE.  If you are interested or would like more information, contact Gretchen Tieu at CVArtAdventure@aol.com or 651-283-6673.  Thank you for considering!!
