    Cirque du Soleil Crystal: Discounted Tickets for Veterans, Nov. 9-12

    A brand new Cirque du Soleil show is going to be appearing at Target Center November 9 – 12, 2017. Cirque du Soleil’s newest show’s goal is to create a whole new form of entertainment and redefine the standards of the ice show.  To conceive a never-before-seen hybrid of ice arts and circus disciplines; combining the artistry, surreal aesthetic and jaw-dropping acrobatics of Cirque du Soleil with world class skating, interactive multimedia, innovative choreography, and poignant storytelling.

    Families can fill out the order form and simply submit it to the Target Center Box Office. Tickets will be mailed directly back to the individual families.

    Free Blacksmithing Class for Veterans, Nov. 10

    Blacksmithing can be a form of mental and physical therapy and provide a creative outlet for many people, including disabled Veterans and Veterans with PTSD.

    This event is open to all military personnel, past and present. Whether you have never swung a hammer before, have some experience, or have a disability that prevents you from enjoying hobbies like blacksmithing, Ken's Custom Iron wants you to join them for a day in the shop. Take a tour and try your hand at heating up and pounding on some iron!

    Thank You for Your Service Screening, Nov. 10

    Acres for Life Wellness and Therapy Center is honored to present a one-time local premiere screening of the powerful, award winning documentary Thank You for Your Service at the Wooddale Church/Music Box Theatre on Friday, November 10th at 7 p.m.

    Thank You for Your Service is a film about Veterans, their families, and the mental health crises they face after returning from combat and what the possible solutions to their situations could look like.

    City Working with Partners to Reduce Homelessness Among Veterans

    Keys for Heroes Program Opening Doors

    Nov. 9, 2017 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis has joined a statewide program to help reduce homelessness among Veterans. Since the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs launched the Minnesota Homeless Veteran Registry in 2014, it has housed 1,218 homeless Veterans – 613 in Hennepin County. Minneapolis* and Hennepin County have the highest concentration of homeless Veterans in the state.

    Veterans Town Hall, Dec. 7

    The next Veterans Town Hall, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will be held Dec. 7, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Forest Lake YMCA, 19845 Forest Road, North, Forest Lake, MN 55025. Day care will be provided. Officials from the VHA, VBA and Fort Snelling National Cemetery will be available to respond to questions and concerns. Meeting is open to the public.     Minnesota Veterans 4 Veterans Trust Fund approved a $20,000 to Every Third Saturday Homeless Veterans Organization

    At the September 2017 Minnesota Veterans 4 Veterans Trust fund monthly meeting, the following grant was approved by the eight-member board of directors: Every Third Saturday Organization is located at 4303 East 54th Street, Minneapolis MN 55417. This 501c(3) charity was awarded $20,000 to be dedicated to working with homeless Veterans and their families by helping pursue a better future. They distribute necessary items (clothing, hygiene kits, sleeping bags, boots etc.) to hundreds of homeless Veterans.

    The objectives of Every Third Saturday are to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of homeless Veterans and their families. The grant is needed to establish programs that are not currently available which will encourage connection with others and discourage isolation and withdrawal.  The organization will also commit funds to outreach efforts including the rebranding of a van donated by the DAV and much more.
