In recognition of Veterans Day on Saturday Nov. 11, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is compiling a list of Veterans Day events around the state. Community organizers statewide are encouraged to submit event information to MDVA by Oct. 31 to be included on our website, social media, and distributed to media throughout Minnesota.

    Heart of a Ranger: The True Story of Corporal Ben Kopp, American Hero in Life and Death, Nov. 8

    Dakota County Technical College invites you to hear “Heart of a Ranger”. Author Bill Lunn will share the story of Corporal Ben Kopp, a Rosemount native and American hero. A book signing will follow the presentation. Cpl. Ben Kopp, an American hero who was credited with saving the lives of six of his fellow soldiers on the battlefield, was struck down defending his country; he died a Ranger, a warrior, and a patriot. His heroism would not stop at death, through the donating of his organs, bone, skin, and tissue, he went on to save the lives of four Americans and benefited the lives of more than sixty.

    Cirque du Soleil Crystal: Discounted Tickets for Veterans, Nov. 9-12

    A brand new Cirque du Soleil show is going to be appearing at Target Center November 9 – 12, 2017. Cirque du Soleil’s newest show’s goal is to create a whole new form of entertainment and redefine the standards of the ice show.  To conceive a never-before-seen hybrid of ice arts and circus disciplines; combining the artistry, surreal aesthetic and jaw-dropping acrobatics of Cirque du Soleil with world class skating, interactive multimedia, innovative choreography, and poignant storytelling.

    Families can fill out the order form and simply submit it to the Target Center Box Office. Tickets will be mailed directly back to the individual families.

    Free Blacksmithing Class for Veterans, Nov. 10

    Blacksmithing can be a form of mental and physical therapy and provide a creative outlet for many people, including disabled Veterans and Veterans with PTSD.

    This event is open to all military personnel, past and present. Whether you have never swung a hammer before, have some experience, or have a disability that prevents you from enjoying hobbies like blacksmithing, Ken's Custom Iron wants you to join them for a day in the shop. Take a tour and try your hand at heating up and pounding on some iron!

    Thank You for Your Service Screening, Nov. 10

    Acres for Life Wellness and Therapy Center is honored to present a one-time local premiere screening of the powerful, award winning documentary Thank You for Your Service at the Wooddale Church/Music Box Theatre on Friday, November 10th at 7 p.m.

    Thank You for Your Service is a film about Veterans, their families, and the mental health crises they face after returning from combat and what the possible solutions to their situations could look like.
