Civil Rights - Events, program updates, small business and workforce training opportunities
In 2021, sixteen certified small businesses improved their ability to compete for Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) projects and contracts, thanks to the Micro Grant Program. Certified small businesses can apply for up to $2,000 so that they can build their capacity and capability, expand their expertise, and increase their eligibility for MnDOT projects and contracts. MnDOT’s Micro Grant Program helped these 16 certified small businesses to develop websites, purchase highway heavy construction software and books, and receive technical training, for a total of $30,113 expended.
“Training is always on the to-do list, but, as with many small businesses, client projects are often prioritized. The cost of high-quality training is a barrier to completion,” said Jill Brown, of Jill Brown PR. “The MnDOT grant made it possible to move training to the top of the list.”
Businesses that received a Micro Grant are Minnesota-based and work on or are actively pursuing work on MnDOT contracts. They provide a range of expertise including construction, engineering, landscaping, sanitation, consulting, project management and information technology.

“We look forward to putting the enhanced skills to work on a MnDOT project,” Brown said.
