Z ARCHIVE: Metro - I-35W between Roseville and Lino Lakes: 2019-2021 Construction
After three years of construction, we are pleased to announce that the work on I-35W between Roseville and Lino Lakes is complete! Over the weekend the crews finished up their work, and now drivers will enjoy new pavement on roads and bridges, new E-ZPass lanes, more predictable travel, less congestion and increased safety.
Looking back on the project, here are some I-35W north metro construction fun facts:
- 250+ people were working on the project on the busiest days
- 16 miles of new E-ZPass lanes were constructed
- 135 miles of road have new pavement; if all the newly paved lanes were stretched end to end in a single lane, it would reach nearly to Duluth!
- 8 bridges were reconstructed
- 28 miles of concrete barriers were used to protect workers and drivers
We started looking into improving this stretch of I-35W back in 2012 and have since worked with local officials and agencies, community leaders, residents, businesses and people who frequently use I-35W to understand the needed improvements of this corridor.
Whether you’re a resident, a business or a driver who was impacted by construction, we appreciate your patience and cooperation over the last three years.
Thank you, and enjoy your new road and better driving on I-35W!
With the completion of this project, we’ll be archiving this email list. Learn more or sign up for email alerts for other construction projects in the Metro area by visiting the metro construction projects webpage.
New E-ZPass express lanes on I-35W now open
MnPASS is now E-ZPass, and the new E-ZPass lanes between Roseville and Blaine are open! E-ZPass will operate the same as MnPASS, giving travelers a more reliable option during busy commuting hours.
During rush hour, E-ZPass is free for buses, motorcycles and vehicles with two or more people; solo drivers can pay a fee to use the E-ZPass lane during rush hour. Outside of rush hour,—nearly 90% of the time—the E-ZPass lanes are open to ALL drivers!
Visit the E-ZPass Minnesota website to learn more, open an account and enjoy a better commute. Current MnPASS tags will continue to work on Minnesota roads. Existing customers who want a new E-ZPass tag for use in other states can switch to the new tag at any time.
This completes the I-35W North project, a three-year reconstruction project to repair aging infrastructure and improve mobility on I-35W between Roseville and Lino Lakes.
