Lane reductions scheduled on
northbound I-35E from Co Rd E to Hwy 96 for shoulder work
Motorists should
be aware that the Hwy 96 bridge will
close at I-35E beginning 8 p.m. Fri, July 7. The bridge closure was scheduled to
occur a few weeks ago, but weather delays and then the Fourth of July holiday
weekend made it necessary to reschedule the closure.
During the closure, you’ll
only be able to turn right from either I-35E or Hwy 96. Only the following
movements will be allowed:
- Northbound I-35E
to eastbound Hwy 96
- Southbound I-35E
to westbound Hwy 96
- Eastbound Hwy 96
to southbound I-35E and
- Westbound Hwy 96
to northbound I-35E
We’re closing the bridge so crews can apply a chip seal (thin
coat of asphalt and gravel) to the bridge deck. We’ll re-open the bridge by 5 a.m. Mon, July 10.
In addition, NB I-35E will be reduced to two lanes
from Co Rd E to Hwy 96 starting at 7 p.m. on Fri, July 7 until 5 a.m. Mon,
July 10. We’re closing a lane for
shoulder work. Once the lane closure is
lifted, it’ll be replaced with a shoulder closure until 2 p.m. for concrete
curing.
The bridge work is part of the two-year I-35E Goose
Lake Rd and Hwy 96 road resurfacing project. In addition to resurfacing,
the work includes widening the road, re-decking and widening the Hwy 96
bridge, replacing the I-35E bridges over Goose Lake Rd, updating drainage,
repairing guardrail and constructing a trail. The work is expected to be
complete by late summer 2017.
