MnDOT Office of Civil Rights, in partnership with South
Central College, recently wrapped up a series of business skills courses for
certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. An average of 18 participants attended each of the fourteen classes. Participants who complete a designated
curriculum earn certificates in Small Business Management or Financial
Management. Nine individuals
representing eight firms certified as DBEs earned
certificates in both Financial and Small Business Management. The DBE firms with owners receiving certificates were:
- On Call Pavement Sweeping
- Hanson Custom Crushing

NU Century Painting, LLC
- Prime Focus, LLC
- SKK Architects
- Tarraf Roll Off Services, Inc.
- Brown Consulting
- Fondungallah & Kigham, LLP
These courses are an opportunity for owners of certified
small businesses to receive valuable knowledge, training, and practical advice
about how to manage their business and finances. Classes focused on subjects such as:
- Accounting and Quickbooks
- Human Resource Essentials
- Sales and Marketing
- Legal Considerations in Bidding
- Project Management
- Partnering
