Traveler - Fish for free with the family this winter
Minnesota State Parks and Trails Traveler January 2015
Glacial Lakes State Park Glacial Lakes State Park is located at a crossroads between prairie to the west and hardwood forests to the east. In the winter, drop a line through the ice on Signalness (Mountain) Lake and catch sunfish, crappies and perch. In the spring, you'll find wildflowers blanketing the prairie landscape. There is swimming in the summer, and in fall the golds, reds and yellows of the leaves will surround you.

The List - Ice Fishing This winter, you can still catch that perfect fish. Try ice fishing! A handful of Minnesota state parks offer great ice fishing programs for a hands-on experience. With over 10,000 lakes across Minnesota, finding the perfect ice fishing spot is easier than you might think. You can even fish for free in most state parks!

Traveler Tip - Tracks in the Snow Have fun exploring the snowy landscape by spotting tracks left behind by little feet. Looking for animal tracks along the trail at your favorite state park can be an entertaining adventure (and it's a lot easier to do than trying to look for that elusive wild animal). You might find tracks for white-tailed deer, red fox or coyotes.
