The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has received a project proposal for the proposed Nolte Family Farm Irrigation Project (the Nolte Project) located within the Pineland Sands Area of Central Minnesota.
The DNR is committed to a transparent and neutral review of the project based on science and applicable state law. The purpose of environmental review is to identify the potentially significant environmental impacts and potential mitigation options to determine if an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is needed. Environmental review also includes an important public comment opportunity prior to a final decision on the need for an EIS.
Preparation of an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) will utilize internal expertise as well as coordination with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Department of Agriculture and Department of Health. This Interagency Review Team will focus on the cumulative potential effects portion of the EAW and will meet periodically during EAW preparation.
To help ensure transparency and access to information, the DNR has launched a webpage to provide the public with easy access to information and documents associated with the review of the Nolte Project. The webpage will provide access to basic information about the project, EAW status updates, documents and proposer-developed data and studies.
Separate from the environmental review process, the Nolte Project as proposed, will need water appropriation permits from the DNR. No permits or approvals can be granted until the environmental review is complete.
