The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recently appointed Lieutenant Colonel Rodmen Smith as the new director of its Division of Enforcement.
Smith is a 19-year veteran of the division. He most recently served as Assistant Director of Enforcement He has also served as a field conservation officer in central and northern Minnesota, a district supervisor, a Regional Captain and the Division's Operations Major. Prior to joining the DNR, he was a police officer for the City of Minneapolis.
The 50-question exam given at the end of your firearms safety classroom course has been revised. It now contains illustrations with each question.
We also revised the Answer Sheets and Answer Keys for this exam.
Exams, Answer Sheets and Answer Keys will be shipped to you when you order firearms safety class supplies.
Please recycle any old test booklets, answer sheets and answer keys you have.
If you have already ordered supplies but did not receive the new exams and answer sheets, email enforcement.education@state.mn.us.
It's always nice to be able to share with you the results of your volunteer efforts. Below is the breakdown of student certifications for 2015:
Firearms Safety 24,343
Snowmobile Safety 7,163
ATV Safety 4,252
Students completing the Online Snowmobile Course are to be given a DNR 15-Question Verification Quiz on the day of their Riding Performance Course.
Just as a reminder, students completing the Online Snowmobile Course must pass a 50-Question Exam as part of the online process. The DNR 15-Question Verification Quiz now replaces the DNR written exam.
NOTE: The Verification Quiz is NOT a "Pass" or "Fail"; rather, it is intended to be used as a review with the students. If a student does poorly on the Quiz, instructors may use their discretion regarding whether the student continues in the class or not.
If you have any questions, please contact RTO Bruce Lawrence at bruce.lawrence@state.mn.us or call 800-366-8917.
Thank you!

The IHEA-USA Instructor Advisory Committee is interested in knowing what types of training instructors would like to see provided in an online internet platform. As educators, you are on the front line in educating the public on Hunter Education, Hunter Safety, Conservation, and much more. The IHEA is exploring the need for online internet training interests in several different areas, and needs your input.

We are currently conducting Instructor Forums for early 2016. The schedule of Forums can be found on the DNR website at:
Instructor
Forums
We encourage you to attend a Forum for updates, discussion and feedback from you, as well as interact and share ideas among your fellow instructors.
Students who complete the Online Firearms Safety Course and attend your Field Day are given a 15-Question Quiz. This Quiz has been used for several years, and we have now revised this Quiz by clarifying some of the questions and adding photos for each question.
This Quiz REPLACES the 2-sided Quiz we have been sending with supplies (on Yellow paper). If you are conducting a Field Day, the revised quiz will be included in your supplies, as well as an Answer Key.
