PATH Newsletter, May 2015, Vol 6 - #5
Departure:Sonia Ontiveros (Central Office, grants/capital program fiscal manager) has moved on to a part-time job with the Department of Health to provide some much needed “balance” of her work and home life. She had been with the DNR for 14 years, including time at 1200 Warner Road and the Central Office, serving in the Waters and the Trails and Waterways divisions, Office of Management and Budget, and Forestry. She returned to the Parks and Trails Division in May 2014. Her last day with us was April 24. Retirements:Eileen Bachmann (seasonal parks worker, Lake Carlos State Park) retired May 9, with almost 25 years of service. All of her time was spent in the same position in the same park, which was close to home. What Eileen has enjoyed most about her work at the park has been her interactions with campers and co-workers, who have become close friends. She has also valued the chance to work on a good variety of tasks. In retirement, Eileen plans to use her camper more, and do a lot more reading and spend more time with children and grandchildren. She totally agrees with a camper she once met, who said, “State parks are Minnesota’s best kept secret.” Wanda Swor (office and administrative specialist, Lake Carlos State Park) retired May 4, with nearly 31 years of service. Wanda began as a parks worker in 1984, and in 1990 she accepted a clerical position. When asked why Lake Carlos State Park was the place for her, she said, “God opened the door and I walked into it.” Wanda has met some incredible people who have worked for the DNR and others who have visited the park. A favorite recent memory of hers was to help a man celebrate his 100th birthday in the campground (see PATH, Sept. 2013). The centenarian had tent-camped in the park since 1950, and wanted to camp one last time. After retirement Wanda plans to get married and go trucking. |
