Youth starting summer employment

Summer break is nearly here for Minnesota teens and many teens may be looking for employment. Before hiring young workers, employers should review the state's child labor laws. Employers should be aware of working hours and hazardous work restrictions that vary based on the employee's age.

Federal youth labor laws

In addition to Minnesota's child labor laws, the U.S. Department of Labor also oversees and enforces child labor laws. Employers must follow both state and federal child labor laws.
