Dear colleagues:
Thank you to those of you who joined us for our "Sharing Best Practices" webinars in May, June and July 2020. It was an excellent opportunity for fellow labor commissioners to share and learn about the COVID-19 response and recovery challenges in their respective states.
As we continue to navigate these uncertain times due to COVID-19, we will continue to conduct monthly webinars to allow for ongoing problem-solving and mutual support. While the discussions are insightful and engaging, we hope to resume our annual in-person conference and business meeting next summer, July 18 through 21, 2021, in Washington, D.C.
Free NAGLO membership
NAGLO is excited to offer free annual membership this year (July 2020 through June 2021). Our NAGLO Executive Committee members have waived dues and we invite states to register as members, so NAGLO can more effectively reach state leaders for future engagement efforts. To register you or your labor designee, click this membership link.
NAGLO election of executive officers
Also, all members are eligible to run for an officer position on the executive committee. We will conduct our annual business meeting with the officers' election from noon to 1 p.m. (Central Daylight Time) on Oct. 29, 2020.
A separate meeting notice with login information will be sent to active members to attend and vote.
After serving two years as NAGLO's president, I have genuinely appreciated the opportunity to lead the national conversation about the broad breadth of state labor department responsibilities and challenges. It has been so rewarding to host the Sharing Best Practices forums to support our fellow state administrators during these historically challenging times. I encourage you to consider running for this position and the other executive committee roles of first vice president and second vice president. Oregon Commissioner of Labor and Industries Val Hoyle has graciously agreed to continue to serve in the role of treasurer and secretary.
Regional coordinators also needed
We will also be electing regional coordinators for the east, south, midwest and west. Click this map link to see a breakout of states in each region. For more information about these roles and terms for executive and regional leadership roles, you can view the NAGLO bylaws.
If you are interested in running for one of these positions, send a letter of interest and introduction to support your candidacy for a particular role to me by Thursday, Oct. 22. We will then share the information with the members before voting during the Oct. 29 business meeting. If you have any questions, please reach out directly to me at anna.hui@labor.mo.gov or 573-751-3262.
Challenges will continue as circumstances evolve. COVID-19 has forced us to rethink how we fulfill our duties and missions to the public. NAGLO will undoubtedly play a role in charting that path forward to recovery. So, please register today as a NAGLO member, run for office and stay engaged. The direction and decisions are better when diverse people and views are involved.
Warmly,
Anna Hui NAGLO president Director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations
