Keeping teens safe at work this summer
Summer break is nearly here for Minnesota teens and many may be looking for employment. Before hiring teens, employers should review the state's child labor laws.

Legislature updates prohibited teen work activities
The Minnesota Legislature modified two teen work restrictions to now allow 16- and 17-year-old employees to:
- operate certain power driven lawn equipment when employed by a golf course, resort, municipality or rental property owner; and
- operate amusement rides at fixed-site amusement parks.

Federal youth labor laws
In addition to Minnesota's child labor laws, the U.S. Department of Labor also oversees and enforces child labor laws. Employers must follow both state and federal child labor laws.
