This year will focus on
stabilizing the MnCHOICES Assessment and launching the MnCHOICES Support
Plan. Stabilizing the Assessment means that we will take some time to pause and carefully examine the application's technical function. We are also bringing in a contractor to provide some evaluation which includes connecting with lead agencies about their business processes.

We are very excited to
introduce you to several new DHS staff who will be working with you and with
our team. In February, Teresa vanderBent joined us. She is working in communications and training with her primary focus on
communications. Teresa is partnering with Cathy Griffin. In
March, Beth Siewert joined our team and she is working with Rita
Chamberlain and Nancy Jurgensen. As you may recall,
Emily is moving on to a new position in DHS. Kong Vang is a new
addition to the Help Desk and he will provide great
technical assistance to all our Mentors. Lastly, Rachel Shands became a
supervisor in Aging and Adult Services and Aron Buchanan stepped in to
fill her shoes. It is very exciting for all of us to have fresh faces and
new energy on our team and we know you will appreciate each and every one of
them!

Seems like there is some
confusion about the various documents and tools connected to the MICP. Let’s
see if this helps:
- MICP survey was used to develop the initial
list of contact information from lead agencies across the state. It will
always remain available in the event that an agency needs to update,
correct or add information.
- Explanation about MICP is available
on CountyLink. It is a “thing” and not a person.
- MnCHOICES
Interagency Contact Point (MICP) list is posted to CountyLink. It lists
lead agencies who use MnCHOICES (counties and tribes) in alphabetical
order. It includes the phone and fax number plus an email address to use
when communications need to occur between agencies. It also includes a
link to:
- MICP
Survey to update the MICP list
- MICP
explanation document to understand its purpose and use

Looking for a Reassessment
that is for a person who is new to MnCHOICES? Remember, the Reassessment is
created and then goes to the Assignment Queue, not to the Assessment
Queue. Once it is in the Assignment Queue it is ready to be assigned to a
Certified Assessor. Then it moves to the Assessment Queue of the assigned
assessor.
- Created in Person and
- Moves to Assignment Queue
-
Assigned to assessor from Assignment Queue
- Assessors locates in Assessment Queue and enters the Assessment Date
- Click View to open and begin to conduct the Reassessment

The Eligibility Update feature is for New
Assessments only. It is not for use with Reassessments.

If the MnCHOICES Screening
Document or Service Agreement does not fit the situation (i.e. two PCA service
providers) print the document and add additional information by hand for the
person who will enter the data in MMIS.

Eligibility requirements
for programs and services have not changed because we use MnCHOICES and all
requirements for all programs are in the Assessment. A person may, for example,
meet criteria for dependency in LTCC or DD but not PCA and that is ok.
That is why there are similar questions to answer for the same needs such as
ADLs.

Counties and tribes, who
contract with Managed Care Organizations, have the option to complete the
Collaborative Care Plan instead of the 6791-B. This option is available for people 65+ who are assessed and it is
anticipated the person will be in an MCO instead of fee for service.

An Assessor’s role is to conduct assessments and
develop support plans. It is not to determine eligibility under Rule
185. It is the Assessor’s role to refer the person for determination of
Rule 185 eligibility. Once the referral is made, and other tasks of the
Assessor are complete, there is no need to keep the assessment open.
Close the Assessment and hand it off to the QDDP who determines the Rule 185
eligibility. The DD Waiver and Rule 185 Case Management will display as
potential eligibility in the Eligibility Summary.
NOTE: This does not imply that an Assessor can’t also be a QDDP and
determine eligibility for Rule 185.

Recently, we received a
problem report from a Mentor: “MnCHOICES used to collapse the domains when you
move to another domain area. Now, all domains stay open.” We learned that
approximately 18 months ago, the navigation panel on the left side of the Assessment
was enhanced to no longer close when moving from one domain to the other.
We had received many
enhancement requests from users asking that domains not close when moving to
another domain. Users indicated they prefer domains remain open because it helps
them remember where they were if they needed to navigate back.
Domains now remain open
until closed by the assessor. Domains are opened and closed by clicking on the
“arrow” immediately to the left of the domain name.

If you use Internet Explorer (IE) as your browser, as required by
MnCHOICES, make sure you are using IE 11. Microsoft no longer
supports any earlier versions of Internet Explorer. Using an
earlier version puts your computer at risk. If you have an earlier
version, alert your IT person/department. Helpful websites:
- Find out what version is on your computer
- Know the risks associated with not using the current version of IE
