Follow-Up to February’s VRS Community Partners + VRS Staff Forum

Dear VRS Community Partners,

Thank you for joining us at the February 6, 2024, Vocational Rehabilitation Services + Community Partners Forum. We appreciate your participation.

The recording, presentation, and closed captioning transcript are now available online. Register for upcoming forums, and view past recordings and presentations here: https://mn.gov/deed/job-seekers/disabilities/partners/updates/.

Several questions arose regarding our VRS P/T Contracts that have Wages as a service, and the payment of individuals served using a 1099/Individual Contractor status. Please be advised that ALL individuals who are paid Wages as a contracted service must be put on the Community Partner payroll and may not be paid utilizing a 1099/Individual Contractor status. Vocational Rehabilitation Services leaders, including the Director of Contracts and Partnerships and our Pre-ETS Specialist, consulted with the Department of Labor and Industry back in June of 2021, and the guidance was given that the Department of Labor and Industry would not consider individuals requiring payment of wages through our P/T contracts as meeting the criteria for a 1099/Individual Contractor.
