Resources for those who have been laid off

If you have been laid off (or notified that a layoff is coming) through no fault of your own, we offer services at no cost that focus on preparing you to find a suitable new job.

Our Dislocated Worker Program services are designed to help workers who have been laid off get back to work as quickly as possible through services like:

  • Career planning and counseling
  • Counselor-approved training
  • Job search and placement services
  • Limited funds for support services

You can apply by going to CareerForce and click on the “Change Your Career” option under "For Career Seekers" or contact Heidi Stay from Department of Employment & Economic Development at 651-539-4421, or Zonia Holub from CLUES at 612-746-3520 or contact DWProgram@hired.org  You can also get a head start by filling out the short interest form.

Employment resources for low-income adults

If you are at least 18 years of age and looking to start a new career, our Career Works program may be able to help. We provide adults with career coaching and skills training. Whether you are a new high school graduate or someone who wants a new career, we can help with:

  • Career planning and counseling
  • Counselor-approved training
  • Job search and placement services
  • Limited funds for support services

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training administers a variety of employment and training programs under the direction of the Mayor, City Council, and Minneapolis Workforce Development Board. Our programs:

Career Pathways Trainings offer job seekers free or low-cost, accelerated trainings that prepare them for careers in high demand job sectors including Healthcare, IT, Public Safety and the Trades.

Minneapolis Works - Assistance finding a job for low-income, Minneapolis residents ages 18 and older.

Career Works - Employment and training services to eligible adults 18 and over who are looking to gain skills and employment in healthcare, IT, manufacturing, construction or administrative services.

Minneapolis Youth Works - Assistance with high school completion, work preparation or employment goals for Minneapolis Youth ages 14-21.

Dislocated Worker Program - Comprehensive services for those who have lost their job through no fault of their own for adult ages 18 and older.
