Minnesota Exports to China Down 9 Percent in 2019

Minnesota’s exports dropped 2 percent between 2018 and 2019, with a 5 percent drop in exports to Asia driving much of the decline, according to a state report released Monday.

Gov. Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan recently announced two Dakota County residents have been appointed to the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Board. Apple Valley resident Robert Marsh was reappointed to the board. His term became effective March 2 and expires Jan. 1, 2024. Joe Hobot, of Lakeville, was also reappointed to the board. His term became effective on March 2 and expires Jan. 1, 2024.

The state's labor force has been steadily increasing over the last two decades, but in Roseau County it has been in decline since the mid-2000s. To solve their labor force shortage the residents of Roseau are welcoming new workers from Puerto Rico.

Minnesota Exports Fell 2% in 2019

Minnesota exports of agricultural, mining and manufactured products fell 2% between 2018 and 2019 to $22.2 billion, according to a report released today by DEED. U.S. exports fell 1% in 2019. The year-over-year decline in exports follows a record year for Minnesota exports in 2018, when they reached $22.7 billion, up 10% from 2017. Exports also increased in 2017, up 8% from 2016.

Canada, China, Mexico, Japan, and Germany were in the top five export markets
