The state is hiring its first-ever assistant commissioner for immigrant and refugee affairs, a position that will focus on economic development for Minnesota’s newest Americans. The position, which will be housed at DEED, will work to identify and eliminate structural barriers keeping immigrants and refugees from joining the workforce and starting businesses.

Announcing a New Approach to Working with Minnesota’s Refugee & Immigrant Communities

Through a public-private partnership, DEED will hire an Assistant Commissioner for Immigrant and Refugee Affairs. The Assistant Commissioner will lead an interagency effort to coordinate strategies and actions for increasing immigrant and refugee participation in our communities.

Our new approach to grant monitoring support services for workforce development

DEED is announcing a new series of changes to how we support our grantees throughout the life of a grant. Our goal is to provide the right level of accountability that ensures taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, while empowering our partners to spend more time delivering on their work plans and less time filling out unnecessary paperwork.
