Learning through summer jobs: Teenagers taking advantage of multitude of openings

The state unemployment rate for people age 16-19 dropped sharply, from 18.6 percent in 2012 to 5.4 percent in 2018, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The population of teenagers of working age has grown by 13,900 over those six years and the number of employed teens has grown by 38,800.

Commercial redevelopment in Two Harbors appears to be having a catalyst effect on the community, leading to practically unprecedented business growth. For years, empty storefronts have been a poorly heeded battlecry for development – until now. A $777,000 grant from the DEED through its Small City Development Program will help rehabilitate both commercial and residential properties in Two Harbors.

Nahan printing received DEED Grant

Nahan Printing opens Employee Training Center

St. Cloud commercial printing company Nahan Printing has partnered with St. Cloud State University to help new and current employees sharpen their technical skills. In March of 2019, DEED awarded St. Cloud State University a Minnesota Job Skills Partnership grant to create training materials specifically for Nahan employees.
