DEED Awards $1.5M in Grants to Six Businesses For Job-Creating Growth Projects

DEED has awarded more than $1.51 million in grants to six Minnesota businesses. The selected beneficiaries are: Pinnacle Climate Technologies Inc., Windings Inc., Alula, Hydra-Flex Inc., New Plastics Plus Inc., and Bix Produce Company. The capital for the grants is sourced from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund, which was formed in 2013 by Governor Mark Dayton to support private businesses’ expansion projects that in turn generate jobs and support the state’s economy.

State Exports Grow 6.5 Percent in Third Quarter

Sales of Minnesota agricultural, mining and manufactured exports grew 6.5 percent to $5.7 billion in the third quarter of 2018, according to figures released by DEED. Minnesota represents the 19th largest gain in exports nationwide for this period. U.S. exports as a whole were up 8.1 percent during the same period.

Minnesota Unemployment Rate Steady at 2.8 Percent

Minnesota’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 2.8 percent in November, according to data released by DEED. In November, Minnesota lost 800 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis. October’s previously announced gain of 3,400 jobs was reduced to 2,500 after revision. Minnesota’s unemployment rate remains the lowest since May 1999 and only three tenths of a point above the all-time low of 2.5 percent in both January and February 1999.

Forbes ranked Minnesota as number ten in its ranking of states with the best business climate. Forbes based its rankings on a number of factors but, it said Minnesota's strong economic climate, quality labor supply, and quality of life were the strongest benefiting factors in its rankings.
