Allianz, Securian team up to launch accelerator for insurance-tech startups

A pair of Twin Cities life insurance giants and Wisconsin's Gener8tor have partnered to launch an accelerator for insurance-technology startups. Golden Valley-based Allianz Life Insurance Co. of North America’s venture capital arm, Allianz Life Ventures, and St. Paul-based Securian Financial Group Inc. are behind the program, called OnRamp Insurance Accelerator.

St. Paul-based food processer looks to relocate to Little Canada

St. Paul-based Bix Produce Co. is planning to move its 400 employees to Little Canada in an expansion that would triple the size of its current food-processing facility. The company, long a North End institution, would create 129 new jobs over the next four years and spend $15 million renovating a warehouse and clearance center at Interstates 35E and 694 if a deal to buy the property from Slumberland Furniture goes through. DEED awarded the company two grants in late October, one for creating jobs and another for making capital investments, totaling up to $350,000.

State Unemployment Rate Holds at 2.8 Percent

Minnesota’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 2.8 percent in October, according to data released today by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The number of unemployed Minnesotans now at 86,118 which is the lowest since the last recession. In October, the Minnesota labor market gained a 3,400 jobs when seasonally adjusted and the previously announced loss of 1,400 jobs in September was revised to a 500 job gain.

Graco Plans Rogers Expansion

Graco, internationally recognized manufacturer of fluid handling equipment for industrial and commercial applications, plans to create 84 jobs and invest $73 million to expand its operations in Rogers at the David A. Koch Center. DEED is supporting the expansion with a $700,000 loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund and an $800,000 grant from the Job Creation Fund.
