In Hibbing a family owned airplane maintenance shop is running great and a new airport will improve their business. A $1.3 million loan to the airport authority from the Minnesota Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics and Aviation will help pay for the building. Grants from the Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation (IRRRB), DEED, and Minnesota Department of Transportation Office in Aeronautics & Aviation helped fund infrastructure improvements. |
St. Paul-based Bix Produce Co. is planning to move its 400 employees to Little Canada in an expansion that would triple the size of its current food-processing facility. The company, long a North End institution, would create 129 new jobs over the next four years and spend $15 million renovating a warehouse and clearance center at Interstates 35E and 694 if a deal to buy the property from Slumberland Furniture goes through. DEED awarded the company two grants in late October, one for creating jobs and another for making capital investments, totaling up to $350,000.
The Public Facilities Authority (PFA) approved $31.47 million in grants and loans for water infrastructure projects in the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District and in the City of Carlton. "Communities across Minnesota face serious water-quality challenges," said Governor Mark Dayton. "This funding supports improvements that will give the residents of the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District and Carlton access to the safe drinking water they deserve."
