At the University of Minnesota, launching a new company is one of several ways that breakthrough research can move beyond the lab to benefit the public. But finding the right leader, with the right experience, to bring these new technologies to market can be difficult.
A new network comprising 11 Midwest university technology transfer offices aims to address this leadership gap. Midwest Executives-on-Roster (XOR), a software platform launched recently, will broaden universities’ access to experienced entrepreneurial talent and help match that talent to university startups in need of executive management.

The Metropolitan Economic Development Association (MEDA) recently graduated the first 16 participants in its Mini MBA program for minority entrepreneurs.
The Mini MBA program is a seven-month course that teaches owners better management skills, how to gain access to capital and how to network to find new business. Some of the topics covered in the program include finance, statistics, supply chain, management, fundamental accounting, and other areas of business.
Entrepreneurs who went through the first program saw their business revenue climb an average of 43 percent. MEDA will host an information session for its next class in early October.
