Incubators and Accelerators: Everything You Need to Know

Getting a startup off the ground is hard work, but incubators and accelerators are there to help. They provide early-stage companies with essential resources such as a workspace, mentorship and often times funding to give them a fighting chance.

More and more startups are popping up in the Twin Cities, and right along with them are more accelerators and incubators to help them find success.

St. Paul Launches Loan Program for Small Businesses

St. Paul is offering $500,000 in low-interest loans for businesses that create jobs in the city’s poorest neighborhoods.

The Job Opportunity Fund will provide loans on a first-come, first-served basis for businesses in areas of concentrated poverty. Businesses can get up to $10,000 for each full-time job they create, with a total loan of up to $100,000.

Another Strong Month for Minnesota Labor Market

Minnesota employers added 6,600 jobs in June, while the unemployment rate held steady at 3.1 percent, according to DEED figures. Over the past year, Minnesota employers have added 45,517 jobs, a growth rate of 1.5 percent. Minnesota now has a seasonally adjusted total of 2,962,300 jobs statewide, the most in state history.

DEED Approves Job Creation Funding for Five Small Businesses

DEED approved grants totaling nearly $706,000 to support five business expansion projects in Greater Minnesota. Grants from the Job Creation Fund were approved for Bondhus Corp. in Monticello, Clyde Machines in Glenwood, GEOTEK in Stewartville, Mortarr LLC in Albert Lea and Reliant Systems Inc. in Zimmerman.  Combined, the businesses will invest $20.7 million and create 131 jobs.
