for Water and Sewer Projects

~PFA, other government sources

ST. PAUL – The city of Kelliher was awarded nearly $2 million in grants and loans from the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) and other government entities for upgrades to its water and sewer system.

Kelliher, a city of about 260 people in north-central Minnesota, will use the funding to replace a water tower and water main and to rehabilitate its sewer collection system.

“Kelliher will have a significantly improved water and sewer system, thanks to this project,” said Shawntera Hardy, who chairs the PFA board and is commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). “These upgrades will improve the natural environment and make Kelliher more attractive for businesses and families.”

Funding for the water tower and water main project came from the following sources:

  • PFA Water Infrastructure Fund grant – $421,000

  • DEED Small Cities Development Program grant – $600,000

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program grant – $233,267

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program loan – $123,000
