SBA Technology Seed Fund Visits Minnesota

The SBA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer programs have benefited about 150 Minnesota science-and-technology companies with about $600 million in funding since 1983.

The SBA held a  training and workshop about the fund in Minneapolis recently and has other sessions planned in St. Paul, Duluth, Mankato and St. Cloud in August.

DEED has many programs and services for small businesses, including Small Business Development Centers, Small Business Assistance Offices and the Emerging Entrepreneur Loan Program.

Minnesota Climbs to Third in CNBC's 2017 List of Best States for Business

Minnesota is America’s Third-Best State for Business in 2017, according to a new report released recently by CNBC. Minnesota moved into the third spot this year, after placing fourth in 2016 and coming in first as America’s Top State for Business in 2015. CNBC’s annual study scores all 50 states on 66 measures of competitiveness.  

 

Business Services Firms Optimistic About Where Economy is Headed

Minnesota business services firms feel positive about the economy, with more than 80 percent expecting revenue and profits to increase or remain stable next year, according to a joint survey by DEED and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Business services firms also are optimistic that productivity and employment levels will grow or remain stable in 2018.
