Mankato-Area Projects Awarded Broadband Funding from DEED

Five projects in the Mankato region were among the 42 projects statewide that received $34 million in broadband funding from DEED. Martin County was the biggest local project, receiving $1.68 million from the agency's Border-to-Border Broadband Development Grant Program. Other Mankato-area projects were in Granada, Lake Hanska Township, Winnebago and Westbrook.

 Manufacturers Upbeat About 2017
Minnesota manufacturers are upbeat about the economy, with 90 percent expecting production levels to increase or stay the same in 2017, according to an annual joint survey by DEED and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. The 2016 Minnesota Manufacturing Business Conditions Survey also found that 86 percent of respondents expect orders to increase or stay the same in 2017 and 89 percent expect exports to increase or stay the same.
 DEED Funds 42 Broadband Projects
Lt. Gov. Tina Smith and DEED last week announced grants totaling $34 million for 42 broadband infrastructure projects in Greater Minnesota. The projects will provide 16,627 households, 2,240 businesses and 71 community institutions across Minnesota access to reliable, affordable high-speed internet. “Broadband is an important economic development tool that will improve people’s quality of life and make businesses more competitive,” said Commissioner Hardy.
 Minnesota has among the lowest percentage of residents without health insurance in the country, according to Minnesota Compass. The state ranks fourth behind Massachusetts, Vermont and Hawaii. |
