New Dates for Job Seeker Bulletin

The Minneapolis Job Seeker Bulletin’s issue date has been changed from the 2nd Tuesday of the Month to the 2nd Thursday of the month starting January 12, 2017. 

The New North Minneapolis Workforce Center Is Now Open

The North Minneapolis Workforce Center has a new location at 800 West Broadway. The new Workforce Center is open Monday – Friday from 8 am – 4:30 pm and can be accessed by Bus Routes 14, 30 and 32. Visitors will still find the same help for job seekers including computer access, office assistance, library access, assistive technology, workshops, and one-on-one job search support in a larger building.

In addition to career services, the increased space allows for an innovative partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools and NorthPoint Health & Wellness. The partnership will provide benefits such as opportunities for youth and adults to complete their high school diploma and GED, medical, behavioral health and dental services, and a new retail location.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Sprinkler Fitters Joint Apprenticeship Committee Applications
The Minneapolis-St. Paul Sprinkler Fitters Joint Apprenticeship Committee will be accepting applications from January 9, 2017 – January 13th, 2017 and January 23rd, 2017 – January 27th, 2017. Applications may be obtained and submitted between the hours of 9am – 11:30am and 1pm and 6pm at:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • Must not be less than 18 years of age.
  • Must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. certificate of equivalency.
  • Must have a valid Government issued I.D.
  • Bring copies of your high school diploma/ G.E.D. or transcripts.
  • Bring a copy of your valid Government I.D.
  • A copier will not be available at application.

If selected, each apprentice candidate will be required, prior to job placement, to pass a physical examination and a drug test indicating that they can perform the full duties of the trade.

New Leaf Workshops

This class is designed for job seekers addressing a criminal record in their job search. It combines the nationally recognized Creative Job Search course with strategies for addressing and overcoming barriers to employment, including how, when, and why to disclose your record, addressing employers’ concerns, answering tough interview questions, WOTC, Federal Bonding, and “Ban the Box”.
 
Each workshop is a one day session of 4.5 hours (9am to 1:30pm).

Free Training for a Teaching Career
The YWCA Early Childhood Education Teacher Development Program is offering free training to gain professional skills to take into a classroom. The next cohort starts in late December. The program includes:

  • 80 hours of professional development
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialed training
  • 120 hours of child development courses
  • 500 hour teaching practicum with stipend
  • Job placement
