Leech Lake Youth Program Receives $200,00 DEED Job-Training Funding

Leech Lake YouthBuild received a $200,000 grant from DEED's Minnesota Job Skills Partnership. The funding will support training for 64 YouthBuild participants from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. Students will work on obtaining their high school diplomas, adult diplomas or GEDs. They also will receive construction training and earn credentials in that field to qualify for jobs as construction laborers.

Voter turnout in last week's election was 74 percent in Minnesota, likely the highest rate in the country, according to preliminary results gathered by the U.S. Elections Project. The election-monitoring group said about 58 percent of voting-age citizens cast ballots nationwide.

Federal Cartridge Upgrading Facility
Federal Cartridge Co. announced plans last week to create 50 jobs and invest $33.9 million on upgrades and capacity expansion at its manufacturing facility in Anoka. DEED is supporting the project with a $258,000 grant from the Job Creation Fund and a $900,000 loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund. The loan may be forgiven if the company meets its hiring and investment commitments. “With improved equipment and facilities, the company will be positioned for continued growth in a competitive industry,” Commissioner Hardy said.
