The Bus Stops Here Pipestone County Star-9/7/16 Lt. Gov. Tina Smith and state agency commissioners visited communities and businesses in western and southwestern Minnesota, including Pipestone, during a three-day bus tour last week. The itinerary included a visit by commissioners to Juhl Energy Development in Pipestone on Wednesday. The fourth annual Commissioners on Wheels tour focused on issues and investments related to water, energy and agriculture in Greater Minnesota.

Apprenticeship Initiative Grants Minnesota employers are invited to apply for grants to help
them create or expand registered apprenticeship programs in five industries: advanced manufacturing, agriculture, health care, information technology and transportation. Over a five-year period, Minnesota will engage more than 100
employers in developing registered programs to recruit, train and retain 1,000
new apprentices in 30 high-growth occupations.
Gov. Mark Dayton has declared September to be Workforce Development Month in Minnesota. The state will invest more than $111.7 million in workforce development in this fiscal year, including $35 million dedicated to improving opportunities for Minnesotans of color, women, youth, people with disabilities and/or veterans. To celebrate Twin Cities Startup Week, DEED is hosting
a free event on Thursday, Sept. 22, to promote startup programs offered by the agency. DEED provides startup businesses assistance
ranging from technical support to financing programs. The event, which is free, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at DEED's downtown headquarters in the First National Bank Building. Register here.
