Stern Rubber Breaks Ground in Aitkin

A 10- to 12-week expansion project is ready to get under way at Stern Rubber in Aitkin. The company is investing $1.26 million to expand its Aitkin plant from 10,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet. Stern Rubber has committed to adding 10 jobs over the next two years as part of $80,000 in funding that DEED awarded under the Job Creation Fund.

DEED Funds Support Lyndale Gardens

A $577,00 grant from DEED will help clean up the Richfield property set to become Lyndale Gardens. The property’s owner, The Cornerstone Group, hopes to begin work on the outdoor park-like amenities in October and have them ready next summer. Those elements include a concert stage, community pizza oven, and bridges and trails connecting to the adjacent Richfield Lake.

DEED Seeks Applications for Lenders
DEED is seeking applications from nonprofit groups to serve as certified lenders under the agency’s new Minnesota Emerging Entrepreneur Program. The program will provide loans to new and existing businesses owned by people of color, low-income people, women, veterans and people with disabilities. Workshops on how to apply to be certified lenders are scheduled for later this month.
