Grants Help Youth Prepare for Careers Spokesman-Recorder-6/22/16 A Minneapolis employment and training program was among 13 projects receiving DEED grants to help high school students from specified racial, ethnic and at-risk groups plan their careers. “Our youth need support," said DEED's Leona Martin. Legislature Addresses Glaring Inequities Minneapolis Star Tribune-6/20/16 Earlier this month, Gov. Mark Dayton signed into law a supplementary spending plan that includes $35 million in one-time funding for programs to help reduce racial, economic and educational disparities. It’s less than Dayton’s proposed $100 million, but it’s a good start. And understanding the continuing need, lawmakers agreed to $17.5 million per year in ongoing funding.

Brownfield
redevelopment is among DEED's major missions, with the agency awarding millions
in financial support over the past 20 years to encourage new projects on
formerly polluted sites. DEED recently updated its Minnesota Brownfields
Resource Guide, which was created in partnership with Minnesota Brownfields and
the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The guide explains the importance of
redeveloping brownfield sites and contains important information on the various
types of funding available. The guide can be found here on the DEED website.
