River Falls that employs 40 people. His business acumen helped him win the
Minnesota Small Business Administration's Young Entrepreneur of the Year award
last month. Grant Oppegaard at DEED's Northwest Small Business Development Center said
the young business owner is open to suggestions and simply works hard to make
things happen for himself.

Resource Guide Available for State's Small Businesses

Medical device startup Corvida Medical is planning a $3.1 million expansion in Minnesota that will include the creation of 17 high-paying jobs. The company, headquartered in Coralville, Iowa, will produce closed-system drug transfer products at a manufacturing facility in Eagan. The 17 new jobs will pay average wages and benefits of $41.23 an hour. DEED is supporting the expansion with a $360,000 loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund.
DEED has teamed up with the law firm of Gray Plant Mooty to publish the second edition of “A Legal Guide to Privacy and Data Security,” a free booklet for Minnesota businesses. The publication offers guidance on a variety of privacy and data security-related laws, the impact of such laws on businesses, and best practices to mitigate risks.
Hearth & Home Technologies is adding 37 jobs as part of a $1.45 million expansion of its manufacturing facilities in Lake City. The Lakeville-based maker of fireplace products said it plans to convert 20,000 square feet of warehouse space in Lake City into an engineering lab, offices and testing space. DEED is supporting the expansion with $194,010 from the Job Creation Fund. Hearth & Home Technologies will receive the funding after meeting its hiring and investment commitments.
DEED's Small Business Development Centers served nearly 3,200 clients in Minnesota last year and provided more than 34,000 hours of counseling. The centers, located at 30 sites throughout the state, provide advice on starting a business, marketing and research, accounting, access to loans, business plans and much more.
