Job Creation Fund Getting Results

Companies in DEED's Job Creation Program committed to spending $388.5 million last year on expansions and hiring 2,605 Minnesotans at wages above $12.50 an hour.  The initiative is one of 23 business incentive programs deployed by DEED to entice businesses to stay and grow in Minnesota.

Iron Range Job Fair Draws Hundreds

The Miners Memorial Building in Virginia was home to the 18th annual Iron Range Job Fair last week. Turnout was strong, with hundreds of job seekers and students attending. Companies representing trucking, health care, insurance, services and hospitality, as well as colleges and technical schools, had representatives at the event.

State Job Vacancies Climb to 96,000
The Minnesota labor market remained tight in the fourth quarter of 2015, with state employers reporting more than 96,000 job vacancies, according to figures released last week by DEED. Vacancies were up 8.1 percent from the same period a year ago and were the most for a fourth quarter since the agency began tracking job vacancies in 2001. The record for quarterly vacancies was 115,072 in the second quarter of 2001.

DEED Awards $2.8 Million for Job Training
DEED awarded grants totaling $2.8 million for 14 job-training projects under the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership. Officials said 2,878 current workers and new hires will be trained under the program. “These grants support customized training to upgrade workers’ skills and make Minnesota businesses more competitive and attractive places to work,” Commissioner Sieben said.

Get Jobs Job Fair logo

The Get Jobs Job Fair returns for its 16th year on March 31. The fair will bring job seekers together with dozens of employers recruiting for hundreds of positions from entry-level to professional. Exhibitors also include educational institutions and other business and entrepreneurial opportunities. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eagan Civic Arena. More details are here.
