The State Law Library recently created two new videos demonstrating how to conduct legal research using free resources. Finding Case Law shows how to look for Minnesota Court of Appeals and Minnesota Supreme Court cases using the State Law Library's Opinions Archive and Google Scholar. The video also demonstrates how to construct complex searches that help you find the cases you need faster. Finding Sample Briefs covers the State Law Library's Briefs Archive and offers tips for quickly locating sample briefs.
Both videos are available on the State Law Library's YouTube Channel or on our Legal Research subject guide. In addition, the guide has links to common resources for researching Minnesota law, tips for legal writing and citation, and guides for specific types of research.
How sure are you that you are the only one who knows your password? According to researchers at the Identity Theft Research Center, over 420 million people's passwords were exposed by data breaches in 2022. And if those people reuse their passwords, the hacked login information can be used to breach accounts that weren't involved in the initial breach.
You can check to see whether your email addresses have been found in a data breach by using a leak checking tool like this one from CyberNews: https://cybernews.com/password-leak-check/.
If your email shows up, it's a good idea to change your password as soon as possible, and make sure you aren't using that password anywhere else.
If you find yourself the victim of a data breach, check out the resources on our Cybersecurity subject guide for more information.

Court forms are some of the most useful tools for anyone involved in a legal dispute, whether you are a seasoned attorney or trying to represent yourself in a court case. The Minnesota Litigation Forms Deskbook from Minnesota CLE is a relatively new resource that provides more than 130 forms for all stages of civil litigation. In addition to form templates you can use, the deskbook also contains discussions of the law surrounding each form. You will also find drafting tips, practice tips, and civil litigation checklists. This resource covers every stage of litigation, including complaints, discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeals.
The Minnesota Litigation Forms Deskbook is available in print at the State Law Library. We also have access to digital versions of the forms. If you are looking for court forms, contact our Ask a Librarian service and let us help!
