For many years, the State Law Library has indexed articles from Minnesota academic, bar association, and commercial legal publications for the Minnesota Legal Periodical Index (MLPI). Recently, the search interface was updated, making MLPI much easier to use. You can now search indexed publications by author, subject, keyword, and date. MLPI is an index, so your search results will include a list of articles matching your search terms. If there is a link to the article available, it will be provided in MLPI. If there is no link, simply contact a librarian and we can send you a copy from our collection.

The State Law Library offers access to a wide variety of print and electronic resources and in this issue we're highlighting two of our digital libraries: the National Consumer Law Center Digital Library and the Legal Information Reference Center.
National Consumer Law Center Digital Library
The National Consumer Law Center publishes more than twenty treatises on consumer law, including popular titles on mortgages and foreclosures, debt collection, bankruptcy, student loans, and fraud. The NCLC Digital Library provides e-book versions of these treatises that are keyword searchable, so you can quickly find the information you need. If you're looking for resources on consumer law topics, contact us for a password.

Legal Information Resource Center (Nolo)
If you are looking for a user-friendly guide to the law, Nolo titles are a good place to start. Nolo books are written in easy-to-understand plain English (no legalese!) on a wide range of topics, including immigration, criminal law, disability, and more. We have many Nolo titles in our print collection, but these are also available online through the Legal Information Resource Center. Want to know more? Ask a Librarian for a username and password to search for Nolo books and other user-friendly legal guides remotely.

We are pleased to share our first virtual exhibit, Before They Were Justices: Unique Jobs and Accomplishments of Minnesota's Supreme Court Justices. Military and government service are common among those to join the state's highest court, but a few justices held some unique roles before joining the bench, including dance instructor, postmaster, railroad brakeman, printer's devil, and janitor. This exhibit provides a new angle on Supreme Court history through the interesting, unusual, and impressive accomplishments of Minnesota's justices.
