It has been three months since the Law Library reopened on a limited basis, and we're settling in to our "new normal." One of the things we have learned through this process is that we can do a lot more remotely than we ever thought possible. While there are certain tasks that can only be done at the library, we can usually help with our remote reference services, including:
- Locating statutes, rules, government websites, and other online resources through our Legal Topics pages;
- Providing online access to Minnesota opinions and briefs;
- Emailing you resources from Westlaw, LexisNexis, National Consumer Law Center Digital Library, Legal Information Reference Center, HeinOnline, and more;
- Providing referrals to organizations able to provide legal advice;
- Offering remote clinics; and
- Offering CLE webinars and on-demand CLEs.
We are open by appointment for research that can only be accomplished in person (such as looking up district court records). You can find more information about the types of appointments we are offering on our Services page. Before you make an appointment, check with a librarian - there is a good chance we can save you a trip!
You can contact the library by phone at (651) 297-7651 or by email at askalibrarian@courts.state.mn.us. We respond to questions during our normal business hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
COVID-19 has upended many aspects of day to day life, and the law is no exception. We are seeing an increase in questions about housing and employment issues related to the pandemic. Our COVID-19 guide can help you keep up with the rapid changes on these topics and more.
Housing. Our COVID-19 Housing Guide contains resources for landlords, tenants, and homeowners on topics including the eviction moratorium, foreclosure, privacy, financial assistance, and maintenance concerns.
Employment. We have also compiled resources for employees and business owners. Our COVID-19 Employment and Business Guide contains information about unemployment benefits, workplace safety, financial assistance, and HR concerns.
