It's hard to capture how much everything has changed since our last Inter Alia issue in February. The State Law Library's physical space has been closed to the public since March 19 and we have made a number of changes to how we operate over the last six weeks. The library may be closed, but we're still here to help:
-
Remote Reference Services. We are continuing to respond to questions by email and by phone at (651) 297-7651. We can still help you access practice guides and self-help materials, forms (including ones not published by the judicial branch), and referrals. You will likely get a faster response by email, but you can still leave us a voicemail and we will return your call. We encourage you to continue to reach out with your questions during this uncertain time.
-
Remote Clinics. Our clinics look very different than they did just a few weeks ago. We are continuing to host both the Appeals Self-Help Clinic and the Unemployment Appeals Clinic on their regular schedules, but we are not offering in-person appointments. Instead, we have moved to phone consultations. Use the links above to register for an appointment if you would like to attend one of our clinics.
-
Access to Library Resources. We know that many of you rely on the library for access to Westlaw and print resources, and we know how frustrating it is to not have access at this time. We encourage you to contact the library so we can help you find the information you need. We are still able to access our electronic databases and the print collection. And don't forget that we have a number of tools on our website to help with your research, including our Legal Topics pages, our Briefs and Opinions Archives, and our Referral Guides.
-
Continuing Legal Education. We will be rescheduling several of our upcoming CLEs and offering others by webinar only. Due to the pandemic, the Board of Continuing Legal Education has temporarily suspended the limit for on-demand credits for those of you due to report this summer. We encourage you to take advantage of our free on-demand CLEs.
Chief Justice Gildea's May 1 Administrative Order provides that the State Law Library will reopen on May 18, 2020, unless another order is issued. More information about our plan to reopen will be available as we get closer to May 18. This situation continues to change rapidly, but we remain committed to helping you with your legal information needs.
We have compiled a COVID-19 Resource Guide to help you stay up to date on changes to the law and courts as a result of the pandemic. The guide includes links to the Governor and Chief Justice's orders, resources on legal topics like employment and housing, and information about the national response. We are updating this resource frequently as the situation changes.
